Honda Accord, Ridgeline Earns Top Marks in J.D. Power Study

Honda Accord SedanHonda nabbed two top awards from J.D. Power for the Accord and Ridgeline as part of the research company’s Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout study.

Also joining the awards party for Honda was the 2018 CR-V and 2018 Odyssey, which finished in the top three in their segments. The Accord topped the Midsize Car category while the Ridgeline was ranked the best Midsize Pickup, a category the Ridgeline also won in 2017.

The J.D. Power APEAL study measures owners’ emotional attachment and level of excitement after owning the vehicle for at least 90 days. Nearly 68,000 new car owners who purchased a car between November 2017 through February 2018 participated in the study, which was released in late July.

The Ridgeline led the Midsize Pickup category with top marks for performance and drivability, quality, comfort, safety and technology. Technology/features was the only area the Ridgeline tied with the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon and Toyota Tacoma, which was also in the category.

The Accord dominated the Midsize category by earning perfect marks in all areas including performance and drivability, quality, comfort, safety and technology/features. The category was one of the most crowded segments with 12 sedans in the mix.

Honda’s CR-V earned a perfect mechanical score in the Compact SUV segment, while the Odyssey was the second-highest ranked in the category.

The study shows that overall consumer satisfaction continues to rise with a 10-point increase from the 2017 study. Mass market brands continue to close in on the luxury segment, J.D. Power said, with the gap closing to an all-time low of 37 points. This is the 23rd year of the study.
