Combing luxury and fuel efficiency, the 2019 Toyota Avalon Hybrid has never looked better. Now consumers can check out the video review on the Avalon Hybrid, which is now streaming for VehiclesTEST Toyota subscribers.
The Avalon Hybrid is underpinned by the Toyota New Global Architecture platform allowing designers to create a longer, lower and wider midsize sedan. During evaluations on the East Coast, the Avalon Hybrid got better than 40 mpg.
During testing, the Avalon Hybrid went from zero to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds and had a highway passing time of 5.1 seconds. It ran the quarter mile in 15.5 seconds at 94 mph at the end. Interior noise at highway speeds was a pleasant 70 decibels, and our tests confirmed the curb to curb turning diameter of 38.7 feet.
Improved efficiencies and better fuel economy are the result of THS II's new lighter, smaller Power Control Unit. For example, Auto Glide Control automatically calculates efficient coasting. That helps the Avalon Hybrid XLE achieve an EPA rating of 43 miles per gallon city, 44 mpg highway and 44 mpg combined, while the XSE and Limited trims are EPA rated at 43 mpg city, 43 mpg highway and 43 mpg combined. Our actual driving test showed an as-tested combined fuel economy of 39 miles per gallon.
The Avalon Hybrid also comes with top-notch safety equipment for the driver, such as the Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. All Avalons come standard with Toyota Safety Sense P. TSS-P bundles cutting edge active safety technologies including Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist; and Automatic High Beams. Additional standard safety technology includes the rearview camera Back Guide Monitor.
