This summer, Toyota has unveiled several new products that are sure to excite gearheads, adventure junkies, and ordinary families alike. VehiclesTEST will be creating Virtual Test Drives on all the new models as soon as they are available, so customers can watch the videos right on the subscribing dealership’s website.
Many Toyota nameplates such as Tundra, Tacoma, 4Runner, 86, and Corolla are being redesigned or refreshed with new trim levels and options.
Beginning with the Tundra, the all-new 2022 model was teased earlier this year. Recently, a photo of the truck was leaked to the media, and Toyota countered this leak by releasing an official photograph. The new Tundra steps up the popular nameplate’s already tough looks and is rumored to pack a new twin-turbo V6. Expect the Tundra to be a sales hit when it is released.
Also under the all-new category, Toyota has released the next generation of its 86 sports coupe, the GR86. With a revised 2.4-liter flat-4 sourced from Subaru, the new generation promises additional power in the same thrilling rear-wheel-drive configuration as its predecessor.
The 4Runner is slated to receive a new TRD Sport trim that is more on-road oriented than the current TRD Off Road and TRD Pro trims. The new TRD Sport will be available with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive and will ride on 20 inch wheels. Toyota will also equip the TRD Sport with the X-REAS active damper suspension found on the top-level 4Runner Limited, and the TRD Sport will also receive the Limited’s unique front fascia. Inside, TRD Sport synthetic leather seats with embroidered TRD logos complete the look.
Tacoma is also getting an update in the form of a beefed-up TRD Pro trim and a much improved Trail Edition trim. The 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro will ride higher than the previous model year: 1.5 inches in the front and 0.5 inches in the rear. The truck is available in a new TRD Pro exclusive color called Electric Lime, and will also receive a debossed TRD Pro logo on the bedside similar to the one on the Tundra. The updated Trail Edition also gets a lift, 1.1 inches in the front and 0.5 inches in the rear. New bronze 16-inch wheels and a TRD Pro style grille complete the look. Expect both to go on sale later in 2021.
Last but certainly not least, Toyota has expanded the Corolla lineup with the introduction of the 2022 Corolla Cross. This compact crossover SUV will be available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, and is built on the new TNGA-C platform that also underpins the Corolla sedan and hatchback.
